Sounstation IP 6000 automatically adding area code on speakerphone calls

recently, we purchased a Polycom soundstation IP 6000 and had the phone installed by a licensed Polycom provider. The phone works for making and receiving calls however we have found a problem.

When a user tries to make a call by pressing the speakerphone button, they can only enter 7 digits. If the call is local, it will go through. But if it is not, the call does not go through. (Seems like somehow the local area code is being added automatically on the speakerphone button).

If the user dials the number first THEN hits the dial button, all is ok and they can call numbers that are not local to our exchange/area code.

This is an annoyance and we'd like to have the prepended area code removed but can't locate that feature in the programming in order to get it out of there.

Thanks in advance for any help!
