VVX BLF Programming

I am fairly new to Polycomm VVX programming. I have a freePBX setup and was quickly able to get several VVX410 phones programmed and working. I wanted to go in and start programming the BLF buttons etc... Am I missing something?

1) It looks like yo can only program the buttons in order and you cant skip any? That seems to me to be very limiting? For example, the top 2 left buttons I have programmed as lines (my extension) and I wanted several BLF buttons down the right side (its a VVX410 so I have 6 on the left and 6 on the right). Why can't I assign a blf to a specific button? (yes I see you can re-arrange the existing assignments to any order you want but only sequential buttons, not any button). I have programmed many systems before and usually you can program any button at any time not only starting with 1 and working your way down. I dont have anything to put on buttons 3-6 right now and want to skip them! This is very common for example, different people have different line assignments for buttons 1-6 but everyone wants the same BLF's in the same order for buttons 7-12.

2) I want to program a button as a speed dial (so I don't have to hit the extra keys like up arrow and select a name). So I have a few buttons programed via the static BLF but entered a regular phone number. It works fine but every button has an annoying red X next to it since it cant get the BLF status (i.e. its not really a BLF). Any way to program it as a speed dial as a 1 press dial but without the person icon with the red x?

So I must be missing something because this seems like an unnecessary restriction to require me to only program buttons in sequence and not skip any and you cant program a  button as a speed dial (only as a kluge work around as a BLF without the status part)
